Audience:
A conference
for natural resource professionals, land managers, woodland owners,
and forest scientists providing the latest information on managing
Douglas-fir in the presence of this disease.
Description:
Since
1990, Douglas-fir along the Oregon and Washington coast has experienced
an epidemic of Swiss needle cast, a disease estimated in 2003 to
be infecting over 250,000 acres, and causing an estimated growth
loss of 43 million board feet per year in pre-merchantable plantations.
This conference will familiarize participants with the latest findings
of the Swiss Needle Cast Research Cooperative. Presentations will
address the effects of the disease, the implications of its presence,
and the silvicultural tools that can be effectively employed to
manage infected Douglas-fir.
