KEYNOTE – Implications of
Sustainable Forestry in the Development and Use of Silvicultural Options
James E. Brown, State
Forester, Oregon Department of Forestry, Salem, OR
Oregonians want balance in
the management of forestlands, even though public opinion is in direct conflict
with public behavior. Sustainability can provide a unifying theme that
resonates with the public in the management of forest lands. Silvicultural systems with options that
recognize differing landowner objectives and ownership roles can help provide a
pathway to meet both landowner and public objectives.
