How to Dry Lumber for
Quality and Profit

Workshop Description
The purpose
of this course is to provide a basic understanding of wood and how
to dry it. Practical, up-to-date information will be provided on
wood properties and how wood dries. You'll learn how both steam-heated
and dehumidification kilns are made, operated and maintained, and
how to create and modify kiln schedules for different species. Drying
to meet the European quality standards and heat treating standards
will also be discussed.
Information
will be presented by university practitioners and researchers,
consultants,
and industry representatives using multimedia
and laboratory exercises. A lunch with manufacturers' representatives
will
help
you appreciate the range of equipment available. You will receive
printed materials dealing with different aspects of the course.

Anyone involved
with lumber drying and its management who wants practical hands-on
training and knowledge.

Registration Fee
The cost for
the course is $650. The fee includes reference materials, refreshment
breaks, and one lunch.
Arrangements
All sessions
of the course will be held in Richardson Hall Room 107 at
the College
of Forestry on the Oregon State University campus, Corvallis,
Oregon. A block of rooms has been reserved at special rates
for
workshop participants at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel. To make a

own motel accommodations. There is free parking and a free campus

Free parking
is available in the gravel lot behind Reser Stadium and
along the street west of 35th on Jefferson Way. If you wish to
park anywhere else on campus, permits are required.
The cost for a one-day permit is $5. You can purchase a parking
permit at any Pay and Display station on campus.
