Optional Pre-Symposium Tour Fee

This optional tour will depart the Portland Airport Radisson Hotel at 8:00 am. The guided tour will progress up the Columbia River Gorge experiencing the rapid transition from cool and wet Douglas fir-hemlock forests to the drier pine-juniper forests of Central Oregon. From the Columbia River, the tour will head to Prineville where we will spend some time at the Breese Ranch. Returning to the Willamette Valley, the tour will follow the historic Santiam Wagon Road transitioning from juniper to pine to sub-alpine and back to Douglas fir-hemlock forests. A stop will be made at Hackleman Creek for a stroll through an old-growth fir-hemlock forest. The fee for the optional tour is $110 which includes bus transportation, lunch and dinner. The tour will end at McMennamin’s Edgefield in time to participate in the Octoberfest. A minimum of 20 individuals is required to proceed.

Symposium Fee

The fee for the symposium is $875. It includes handout materials, field trip transportation on Tuesday and Thursday, lodging for five nights and meals starting with breakfast on Monday and ending with lunch on Friday. The accompanying person's fee is $250 which includes field trip transportation and meals.

Accompanying Persons Tours Fee

Tours of the Columbia River Gorge and the Mount Saint Helens Volcanic Monument are available for individuals accompanying symposium attendees to Portland. The Columbia River Gorge was carved by western North America’s largest river through massive lava flows. Escarpments rise 1200 meters above the nearly sea level river with numerous waterfalls plunging from the escarpments. Mount Saint Helens violently erupted in 1980 destroying over 60,000 hectares of forest. The devastated area is now a good example of plant and animal recovery following the catastrophic event. The Gorge tour is available on Monday September 29th and the volcano tour is available on Wednesday October 1st. Both tours will have a fee of between $40 and $60 dollars and will require a minimum of 6 individuals to proceed.
