Accompanying Persons Tours FeeTours of the Columbia River Gorge and the Mount Saint Helens Volcanic Monument are available for individuals accompanying symposium attendees to Portland. The Columbia River Gorge was carved by western North Americas largest river through massive lava flows. Escarpments rise 1200 meters above the nearly sea level river with numerous waterfalls plunging from the escarpments. Mount Saint Helens violently erupted in 1980 destroying over 60,000 hectares of forest. The devastated area is now a good example of plant and animal recovery following the catastrophic event. The Gorge tour is available on Monday September 29th and the volcano tour is available on Wednesday October 1st. Both tours will have a fee of between $40 and $60 dollars and will require a minimum of 6 individuals to proceed. Participant Information |
